If I were a nun...

At Lake Chiemsee there is a cloister on a separate island from the monastery. It was here that we saw the oldest building on our entire visit. The image on the right is the original building and dates back to 680 AD. This convent is still active and we saw several nuns around the grounds and in the chapel. It was inspiring to be in a place where so many saints have walked before us. One of the men on the tour with us was also moved and treated us to a chorus of song at the train station. This is not a place I will soon forget.

Bavarian Beauty

The Bavarian people are all very conscious of how the outside of their living spaces looks. On every window sill there are flowing boxes and pots of beautiful flowers - geraniums are a favorite. Their gardens never seem to have one bloom that has wilted. It is truly one of the most lovely spaces to rest your eyes.

A View of the City

After a walk up 300 stairs (though not all of them this narrow), we were treated to a magnificent view of the city. The clock tower at Saint Peters allows visitors to have a panoramic view of Munich and on a clear day even the Alps to the south can be seen.

Leaving on a jet plane...

Goodbye Mom!

All packed and ready to fly into the great beyond. Not having been overseas since I was in my teens, I am anxious but excited to embark on this new type of journey. The things that I think I will like: public transportation, art, mountains, city life, eating outside, cool weather. Things that I may not favor: having to go to bed at night, sausage, being away from my furry-faced four-legged canines.

I hope to create some posts here while I am gone to keep those who like to live vicariously in the loop. Let's hope this is the beginning of something good!
